Kitchen & Laundry
Welcome back to our Heritage Homestead. Today, we're taking you inside the heart of the home: the kitchen, shared on episode four.
Our goal has always been to infuse this new build with the warmth of a well-loved vacation home.
To make this happen in our kitchen, we chose classic shaker-style cabinets to anchor the design, complete with hand-painted knobs that match the warm, off-white cabinetry — a subtle nod to traditional styling.
To enhance that nostalgic feeling, we added a vintage plate rack that feels like it’s always been part of the space. Colours from my granny’s rug are infused all over the kitchen and dining area, in the runner, the banquette fabric, the plate rack, and in the décor throughout.
While heritage was the theme, we still wanted this space to feel fresh and functional. Modern light fixtures, décor, and a quartz backsplash, with a sleek built-in shelf, contribute to a more contemporary vibe.
We used the rich brown shiplap from the dining area in the laundry room and front entry as well, tying the main floor together in both tone and texture. In the laundry room, we added a custom storage rack designed specifically for skis and fishing poles, making sure the four-seasons element was considered.
The front entry and laundry room feature the same herringbone flooring, another tie between spaces. The laundry room is the entry point from the garage so durability was a must in both areas! We also included hard-wearing quartz countertops, a deep stainless-steel sink, storage, and space to hang your clothes to dry.
As always, our goal is to infuse that heritage feel while connecting you to your surroundings. Using earthy colours helps to ground our spaces and seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors.
We’re so happy with how these spaces turned out! What can you imagine yourself cooking up in our kitchen?
