Great Room
Welcome back to our Heritage Homestead. What a great week! Here’s a closer look at our great room, shared on episode three.
For our great room the focus was back on bringing the outdoors in.
We mirrored the wood beam in the front room (as seen in episode two) as a way to connect the two spaces and to really draw your eye UP. We used cozy, earthy tones throughout to allow the river view to shine through, all the way from the front entry.
Nostalgia is always front of mind in a vacation home, for me. I want a space to feel cozy and not too precious, like somewhere you’ve been before and keep coming back to.
To make this new build feel lived-in we added plenty of vintage and antique elements. We brought in an old blanket box, incorporated antique wooden skis and used vintage decor throughout.
To make the space feel familiar we used comfortable textiles, a throw blanket always in reach. We also built a custom record wall, music is an essential element in our opinion!
We considered how we would use this space - for large gatherings with a big group of family or friends and wanted ample seating to accommodate everyone, comfortably.
Can you imagine yourself hanging out in here, sitting by the fire, playing a board game, having a drink after a nice meal?
