Welcome back to our Heritage Homestead. In Episode 7 of Renovation Resort, we completed our vacation home by transforming our outdoor spaces. After six weeks of connecting our interiors with nature, we flipped the script and brought the indoors out - creating an outdoor retreat that mirrors the warmth, comfort, and thoughtful design found inside.
Our goal was to craft multi-functional outdoor spaces that would elevate the vacation rental experience while still feeling like home. We designed distinct zones for lounging, dining, wellness, and play.
Comfy seating areas layered with outdoor rugs make each space inviting, while a large dining table encourages long meals on the patio with family and friends. For cozy evenings, the fire pit area offers the perfect setting for late-night conversations.
A favourite feature of our backyard is the thermal circuit—a luxurious outdoor wellness setup complete with a wood-fired sauna, cold plunge tub, and fire pit. This spa-inspired addition not only enhances relaxation but also adds incredible value and year-round appeal for potential vacation renters.
We also created peaceful hideaways, like a yoga and meditation zone and quiet seating areas on the front porch and outside the primary bedroom - ideal for solo moments or a couple’s retreat. Custom privacy screens and string lighting make these spaces feel intimate and relaxing.
To connect back to our inspiration, we built a wooden piece reminiscent of my grandmother’s rug (more detail on this piece here). Made with colours and materials used throughout our entire vacation home, this one-of-a-kind piece connects the outdoor space to our interior design and pays tribute to her creative spirit.
