REC ROOM
Welcome back to our Heritage Homestead. As a kitchen and bath renovation company, we know how important it is to design spaces that are not only functional, but also full of personality.
That same passion for thoughtful home renovation inspired us while designing our rec room for episode six of Renovation Resort S2. The result is a playful, nostalgic, and highly usable space that reflects everything we love about great design.
Our multi-functional lower-level space balances modern finishes with vintage charm. Whether you're looking to maximize heads in beds with a murphy bed, kick back in a cozy entertainment zone, or do a puzzle in our games room, our rec-room has it all. Hopefully it inspires a few ideas for your next home remodelling project!
To really inject that nostalgia into our rec-room, we started with a full wall of natural wood paneling. It instantly gives the room a cozy, cabin-like vibe, while also directing the eye toward the river view just outside. The blend of texture and warmth adds depth to the space. Classic design elements can feel fresh when used intentionally!
A bar is really just a mini kitchen, so we felt right at home. Our bar features quartz and laminate countertops, a tiled backsplash, plenty of storage, and floating shelves with built-in LED lighting. This space mirrors many of the same elements we use in our more modern kitchen remodels. This bar area is great for entertaining, and it’s the perfect modern touch to balance out the more nostalgic selections throughout our rec-room.
We added a murphy bed to create additional sleeping space without sacrificing square footage. With the rec-room complete, we have 9 total beds in our vacation home, comfortably sleeping up to 16 guests! Creating a space that is beautiful but also practical is always our goal.
To infuse a bit of fun into the space we added a large, cheeky portrait of dogs playing poker for our Bonus Build.
Fun fact - the dogs are modelled after our friends’ real pets! It’s fun, memorable, and perfect for creating that an “instagrammable” moment. It was ruff work getting it done on time but we made it work!
Personal touches like this are what make a space truly yours - and what we love most about custom home renovations.
One of the most eye-catching features in the room is a full wall of vintage board games paired with a classic dartboard. It’s a nostalgic touch that brings the energy of a traditional rec-room.
This room is a true reflection of the design aesthetic throughout our entire vacation home. Our main goal was to combine nostalgia with modern functionality. It’s cozy, cool, and completely custom. Most importantly, it shows how home renovation is about more than just cabinets and countertops - it’s about creating spaces that make you feel something.
